WHAT TO EXPECT...

The COVID-19 pandemic has had a tremendous impact on all of us and has altered much of what
we have been accustomed to. What it has not altered is the need for support through your
breastfeeding journey. We are here to provide that to you!

In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, please note the following actions
we are taking to keep our clients and lactation consultant as safe as possible:

  • Renia is vaccinated against the COVID-19 virus

  • We triage all clients through the use of the CDC COVID-19 screening questionnaire

  • Wash hands regularly

  • Wear clothing/scrubs exclusive to your home visit

  • Use EPA approved disinfectant to disinfect computer, scale, consult bag and all other equipment used between visits

  • Renia wears a surgical mask for duration of consultation

  • Any support persons present at the consultation are encouraged to wear a mask for the duration of the visit

  • Renia takes immune-boosting supplements daily (B Complex, Omega Complex, Tumeric and Zinc) and exercises three times per week

VIRTUAL CONSULATIONS

Woman Typing

Although home and virtual visits differ much remains the same.

Virtual visits will provide the same:

- Compassion and care from our IBCLCs

- Attention to your needs and concerns

- Review of your health history

- Assessment of latch, positioning and breastfeeding overall

- Development and receipt of a plan of care to help you along your way

- One week of communication with an IBCLC, through text, for
additional guidance if needed

What differs with virtual visits:
- The ability to complete oral exams, although much can be found out with good lighting and different camera angles

- Providing you with weight checks of your baby before and after the feeding
(the intent of doing so allows for us to determine if baby was able to transfer milk effectively from the breast)

For a virtual visit to be effective we need:

- Internet connection with appropriate speed

- An additional adult who has the ability to move and angle the camera

- Sufficient lighting

- A virtual platform that protects your privacy (I use HIPAA-compliant Zoom)

- Intake forms completed 6 hours, at minimum, prior to the visit
